Hythe Town 2-2 Carshalton Athletic
Hythe Town 2-2 Carshalton Athletic

Both sides came into today’s clash with the play-offs still within their grasp but a victory for either side would help them in their quest for promotion.

The first 20 minutes saw both sides ease their way into the game without causing problems, then in the 21st minute Jerald Aboagye running down the right wing swung a cross into the back post where Ben Wilson was & he passed into the path of Sam Adams who from 15 yards shot just wide of the post.

Carshalton had their first real chance two minutes later when Kalvin Morath-Gibbs tried his luck from 25 yards seeing his shot go just past the post.

A minute later Adams in the area passed back for Wilson but from 15 yards his stubbed shot was easily saved by Joe Tupper.

Wilson was starting to have a day to remember as in the 36th minute he received the ball 25 yards out & ran forward beating two defenders before shooting from the edge of the area but Tupper saved it.

Four minutes later & Hythe took a deserved lead when Mitchell Chapman on loan from Ebbsfleet ran down the right & his cross to the back post was half cleared to Wilson who from 15 yards hit his shot into the bottom left hand corner.

As the game went into added on time Carshalton equalised when Ryan Gondoh crossed into the area for Bobby Price who unopposed headed in from 6 yards.

The second half was only seconds old when Kieron Campbell saw his shot from 30 yards saved & three minutes later Dean Grant on the edge of the area saw his volley saved. In the 53rd minute Carshalton nearly took the lead when a short corner was taken & the cross into the area was headed out but only to Morath-Gibbs whose volley from 18 yards whistled past the post.

In the 61st minute Wilson latched onto a loose ball & from the edge of the area shot wide, two minutes later it was Carshalton’s turn when Gondoh weaving his way forward in the area saw his shot saved by Joe Mant. The game was now going from one end to the other & in the 72nd minute Adams running forward got to the by-line before his low cross to the near post saw Grant’s flick deflected for a corner. Hythe regained the lead in the 76th minute when Wilson’s free kick three yards outside the area on the right curled into the area evading everyone & ending up in the bottom left hand corner of the net.

Six minutes later & Carshalton equalised again when a cross to the back post rebounded out to Kingsley Aikhionbare 10 yards out & he smashed the ball past Mant.

In the 89th minute Carshalton could & maybe should have one when Omari Hibbert in the area on his own fired his shot over the bar.

The final whistle went & both sides came off a little disappointed with the result but as stated both sides still in the mix for play-off places.
