Hollands & Blair 0-2 Beckenham Town
Hollands & Blair 0-2 Beckenham Town

Beckenham kept their promotion push going with a professional performance while Blair suffered their third defeat on the trot.

The game itself was a bit of cat and mouse affair to begin with but Beckenham showed why they are top of the table taking their chances when it mattered.

The game was challenging for both sides as the wind prevented both sides trying to play football. The first real chance of the game came in the 15th minute when Harvey Brand was put through but his chip over Adam Highsted went over the bar.

Six minutes later Blair nearly took the lead when Jack Simon’s 25 yards shot came back of the post and was eventually cleared. A minute later Shameen Parrell received the ball on the edge of the area turned sharply but shot just over the bar.

Blair had another chance in the 29th minute when a corner to the back post was headed forward for Chris Saunders but he volleyed well over the bar from an acute angle. Moments later Blair had another opportunity when Stuart West latched onto the loose ball and his curling effort from 15 yards was parried away by McEntagash.

The second half saw both sides fashion early chances but it was Beckenham who went closest when a corner wasnt cleared and fell at Junior Kaffo’s feet but his shot was cleared off the line by Connor Heffernan.

In the 53rd minute Beckenham took the lead when a long ball forward released Dominic Ogun and from 25 yards he beat Highsted who had slipped.

Six minutes later it was two when another long ball forward saw Steve Townsend race into the area and his shot was saved by Highsted’s legs but came straight to Luke Rooney who curled the ball into the net from 10 yards.  The rest of the game saw Blair huffing & puffing trying to get a goal back while Beckenham were content to soak up the pressure and counter attack.

As it was Beckenham were able to see out the remainder of the match with minimum fuss to leave them still top of the table which they could stay at for the time being as this could be their last match for a while due to the Corona virus situation.
