“Consistency is the key” is the rallying call of Bromley captain Jack Holland ahead of this Saturday’s season opener away to newly promoted Chorley.

Speaking after Bromley had completed their pre-season campaign with a narrow defeat against Charlton u23s. Holland was keen to stress that it had been useful preparation for the Ravens.

“Pre-season is always about getting your minutes in and working on your patterns, some of our attacking play has looked sharp and defensively we look sound. The prep is all about being ready for that first game vs Chorley and aiming to start strong”.

Holland has been a mainstay at Bromley since 2013 and captain since 2016 and is in doubt the current squad is the best assembled side in his time.

“From my time at the club this is the best starting squad we’ve had in the National League, there is competition for places everywhere and the talent we have is the best I’ve seen personally”.

He continued “We aren’t trying to big ourselves up and we certainly won’t take anything for granted but this could be something special this year”.

With many fans and pundits alike anointing Wrexham, AFC Fylde, Chesterfield and Solihull Moors as promotion favourites, Holland sees the National League as far more competitive than just the performance of the so-called ‘big guns’.

“I think everyone in the National League is tough it’s not possible to look at the league anymore and identify the easy games. You have to go into every game as focused as you can be if you want to do anything significant in the league”.

Two seasons ago Bromley reached the FA Trophy final but also just missed out on the National League playoffs by three points. Looking at that season as a template, Holland feels that ‘consistency’ is the name of the game should Bromley want to go one better and finish in the top seven.

“In this league you can’t go on runs where you win five, lose five, win four then lose three etc. You have to be consistent and put the points on the board, once you enter a patch of inconsistent form it can be very difficult to overturn. If you want to make any kind of wave in this league consistency has to be the key”.
