Driving his fourth different type of racing car in seven days, BTCC star Jake Hill took Victory in Paul Whight’s  thunderous Aston Martin V8 Vantage GT2 car at Snetterton.

The pair putting on a strong showing against the mighty 7 -Litre Aston Martin Vulcan  in the Aston Martin Owner’s Club GT Challenge event this weekend.

Having raced the car with owner Whight at Paul Ricard in March, and taken Pole Position and leading their class until a driveshaft failure halted their charge, Hill was delighted to be asked the John Danby Racing-prepared machine at Snetterton.

“It’s an absolute weapon! said Hill “I love how robust the car is – proper brakes, aero, big powerful engine, loads of grip, it’s such a mega car to drive and I am hugely grateful to Paul for the opportunity to drive the car with him again”

After qualifying on the front row of the grid, Whight started the No.18 machine, and immediately got involved in a tight battle with Nigel Jenkins Ferrari 458GT, taking over second place when Jenkins made his mandatory stop, then putting in a set of quick and consistant laps before handing over to Hill shortly before half-way in the 50 minute race.

Aston Martin pro-driver Steven Tomkins had held the lead from the outset in the stunning camouflage-liveried Vulcan (see bottom photo), it’s 820bhp 7-litre engine sounding spectacular as he rumbled into the pits to hand over to Stepanov.

Meanwhile BRDC-member Hill charged into the race, and  began immediately setting quick times, catching and passing Jenkins for the lead, and setting the fastest lap – 1.54.318 – almost 1.2 seconds quicker than the Vulcan – and reeling off an impressively consistent set of laps, Hill’s final 8 laps all with 0.4 secs of each other on the 2.96 circuit.

Ultimately Hill crossed the line to take Whight’s Aston Martin Vantage to an emphatic victory by over 30 seconds, the pair’s first together, and Hill’s sixth Win in Classic racing in 2019, having taken five wins previously with Rob Fenn in Masters Historic.

“That was fantastic! So grateful to Paul for having me on board, I just love this car. He did a fantastic job as did the guys at John Danby Racing in giving us a superb car”

Whight was equally quick to praise the team “The car was spot-on, really good, thanks to John and the boys for the job they’ve done, and of course a fantastic job by Jake”
