Hessenthaler praises strike duo

Gillingham may well have found themselves a strike pairing to fire them into League One.

Danny Kedwell has been joined by West Ham United striker Frank Nouble in the past couple of games and it has seen the duo fire four goals between them whilst the side has hit nine in all.

A 6-1 victory at Hereford was followed up by a 3-1 win over Burton at the weekend with Kedwell bagging a brace and Nouble scoring on his home debut.

Nouble has signed initially on loan for a month, but is known to be keen to extend that deal for longer, even possibly until the end of the season with manager Andy Hessenthaler pleased he managed to get the youngster to Priestfield and excited with the prospect of Nouble and Kedwell forming a partnership:

Hessenthaler said: “Frank is enjoying his football and he took his goal well. He’s a big strong boy, he’s quick and him and Kedwell have got off to a good start together.

“They’re starting to get a good understanding with one another and it’s always great for both of your forwards to score.”

With Adam Birchall set to be sidelined for some months to come, it was important for the Gills to bring in some support for Kedwell and the pair showed glimpses on Saturday of the kind of understanding needed to fire the goals needed for promotion.

Next up for Gillingham is their first competitive trip to AFC Wimbledon with Kedwell sure to be keen to impress against his former side.
