Herne Bay Ladies 8-1 Anchorians

Herne Bay romped through this game with Anchorians to maintain their 100% league record and stretch their winning streak to six matches in all competitions, writes Peter Guise.

The game was as good as won by half time with the back of the net hit six times before the referee blew for the interval. Four of those had come from last year’s top scorer, Lauren Harris, who started the spree as early as the 9th minute and finished it off with a brace inside the final 60 seconds of the opening half.

Bay went a bubbly 7 up just after the hour mark and, perhaps understandably, took their collective foot off the peddle. They were soon stung from slumber though when Anchorians scored a consolation 8 minutes from time.

The response was emphatic with a calmly placed shot from Effie Dodds making her debut for the season. In fact, the rout enabled Bay to hand season debuts to three from the bench who all impressed and got precious game minutes under their belts.

“Good performance, even better result”, said manager Peter Whittaker, “and we were able to give minutes to three players who have waited patiently and worked hard for their chance to be in the matchday squad, we’ve got a tough month ahead on the road so that is a plus for them and us”.
