Herne Bay 0-3 Three Bridges
Herne Bay 0-3 Three Bridges

Another disappointing result but beaten by the better side. The fact that Three Bridges are, were, down near the bottom of the league with us makes the result harder to take.

Although Bridges were the more dominant side in the first period they struggled to break down Bay’s defence.

Their only real threat on our goal came from Defender, Lee Hall, whose low drive was superbly saved by Simon Overland, with a stretch diving, one handed push wide of the far post.

Bay had one good chance of their own on 36 minutes; a good one, two between Tom Charlton and Alex Mulrooney-Skinner with Carlton firing his volley across the face of the goal.

Disaster struck in the 42nd as the defence stood off a charging run into the box by Alex Grant. His shot bounced around the defenders before Connor French dived in, beating Simon Kabamba to the ball, sliding it over the line.

Straight from the restart Bridges regained possession, forcing the ball forward where it fell to an unmarked French and he made no mistake hammering the ball past Overland.

Bay tried to increase the pressure on Bridges defence in the second half but Bridges players were playing with real passion protecting their two goal lead, always first to the ball and closing us down as soon as we gained possession.

French put the ‘nail in the coffin’ when he headed home ten minutes from time, although the referee missed the foul on Bradley Schafer which enabled Bridges to push forward in the build up to the goal. But that is the how the decisions go when you are struggling at the bottom of the table.

This result was our seventh consecutive home defeat of the 2018/19 campaign and is our worst start to a season since joining the Isthmian League.

We have scored 5 goals and conceded 25 in those seven home matches. This form has got to be reversed and quickly. We all need to get behind the players and management as they try to get this team, that performed so well for the club last season, to get back to winning ways.
