Heathcote hoping to Party in the Park
Heathcote hoping to Party in the Park

After a successful trip to Croft, Nathan Heathcote continues his Millers Oils Ginetta GT4 SuperCup championship journey with Oulton Park next up on the ‘tour’.

The Kent youngster travels to the leafy Cheshire circuit having regained the ‘Am’ series lead with three podium finishes at Croft a fortnight ago.
Oulton is one of the few tarmac circuits on the roster Nathan has competed at in his transition from dirt to asphalt in this keenly competed series. His previous experience was however restricted to a race in a Ford Puma to get his upgraded AARDS licence though!

Renowned as one of the most difficult tracks to learn, Oulton is often described as a rollercoaster of a circuit, with switchback ascents, of camber bends and linked flowing corners. It also features the G-force inducing Shell corner, which is effectively a banked high speed hairpin bend. Qualifying will be key for a good grid position as the circuit can be difficult to pass at, so Nathan and his Century Motorsport team will be keen to get their sublime handling Ginetta G55 GT4 ‘dialled in’ as quickly as possible.

The BTCC event attracts one of the largest crowds of the season with 40,000 spectators visiting over the weekend and a noticeably high amount of campers and families in attendance, lending itself to the often used phrase; ‘Party in the Park’.

The schedule for the Millers Oils Ginetta GT4 SuperCup includes qualifying on Saturday at 11.40 followed by a 15 lap race at 16.35 with another outing on Sunday at 16.10.

An enthusiastic Nathan said, “It’s definitely a rare bonus to have driven at Oulton, so at least we know which way the circuit goes. I’m looking forward to it to be honest as I really enjoyed the circuit last time we drove there, its has a bit of everything and is quite exciting. Of course its nice to be going in with a points lead but we can’t be complacent and also the track can be a bit unforgiving so we’ve got to be careful to not make any errors and try to hit all the markers.

Since the last round we’ve spent some time on my physical training after work but we we’re also lucky enough to visit Ascot to see a different type of horsepower in action!”
