Hawkey impresses at Nürburgring

Kent’s Esmee Hawkey impressed at the Nurburgring at the latest round of the DTM at the weekend.

Hawkey went into the weekend fresh from her best weekend of the season at Zolder and she continued that momentum.

She lined up on the grid for the opening race of the weekend, in 21st place and the 23-year-old impressed in the race.

She managed to miss the first lap drama and then showed her skills to come home in 17th place.

Sunday saw wet conditions and that was the first time Hawkey has experienced these conditions in the DTM.

She qualified on the grid in 23rd place, she then took 11th place in the final race with one of the six fastest laps of the race. Which is her best finish of the season so far.

Speaking after the weekend, She said: “I’ve really enjoyed my first time racing here at the Nürburgring. It’s been another positive weekend and I’m really happy with my performance, particularly in the races.

“We’re pushing ever closer to the points and I can feel myself improving every weekend.

“We had a variety of conditions to deal with this weekend and that experience will really help me as we move forwards. I can’t wait to get back out there in Austria in a couple of weeks!”
