Harrogate Town AFC 1-1 Bromley

Bromley picked up their first point in four games with a dramatic late own goal away at high flying Harrogate on Saturday evening live in front of the BT Sport cameras.

With Mark Cousins injured Ryan Huddart came back between the sticks for The Ravens and Adam Mekki made an immediate return to the starting line up after returning from a loan spell at Ebbsfleet Utd, both making impressive returns to the Bromley team.

It was the home side who started the better when Burrell was denied by Huddart, before Bromley responded with Mekki firing over from the edge of the box.

With the game opening up Stead was denied by Huddart and he also headed a Fallowfield cross against the bar, the Bromley stopper then also did well to save Diamond’s powerful near post effort soon after. Thomson had a shot deflected over for the home side, while Coulson volleyed over at the other end for Bromley.

Belshaw then did well to save from Coulson soon after and Bush also went close with a shot across the area. Winfield had a header saved from a corner before Thomson drove narrowly over for the home side, then in first half injury time Couslon went close again with Belshaw out of position.

Just before the whistle Fakingham hit the bar for Harrogate from 20 yards out as an entertaining, free flowing half of football ended scoreless.

The second half saw the worst possible start for The Ravens when a move down the right saw Muldoon cut the ball across the area and with the Bromley defence flat footed Diamond converted from ten yards out to give Harrogate the lead. The Ravens rallied after the shock of going behind, Couslon had a couple of efforts saved by Belshaw and Kizzi had a header saved from a Bush free kick. Neil Smith then opted to change the shape of the team and introduced Clifton for Winfield, the Montserrat international doing well as he provided another outlet up front.

After a good spell of possession from Bromley, they finally drew level on 86 minutes when a Coulson corner from the left beat Belshaw in a crowded area and was miskicked into his own net by Bradley at the far post. It was an ugly, almost farcical goal, but it was The Ravens first in four games.

In injury time Bromley looked the most likely to win the game, but in the end they had to settle for a point, which stops the rot and hopefully will provide a base on which to build a tilt at the top seven over the last two months of the season.

The point keeps Bromley twelfth place in the National League, only three points off the top seven, ahead of their next game against bottom of the table Chorley at Hayes Lane next Saturday.
