Harris hoping for three more points
Harris hoping for three more points

Gillingham host Crawley Town this weekend looking to build on the last three performances which have given so many people hope.

Ahead of the sold out League Two encounter, boss Neil Harris has been talking to KSN about the last week and we started in Wiltshire and the six goals that the Gills shared with Swindon, but was it a point gained or two lost we wondered…

“Definitely a point gained,” the Gills boss said adamantly. “We’re away to a very good team. Any team that has Jonny Williams in it – he went to the World Cup in November – and Charlie Auston up front is a very, very good team.”

“Before the game, I would have been delighted with a point – delighted to have seven goals in last three games… to score three in any game is an achievement and a step in the right direction.”

“I do understand the question as I had to be clear with myself in the forty-eight hours after the game, but after watching it back and how they played, and the manner we defended – the manner of the goals that we conceded; first is the penalty that shouldn’t have been given and the second one is an own goal – I feel quite unfortunate with them! Definitely a point gained…”

The Gills made the trip to Crawley just before Christmas going down to a one-nil defeat. “Completely different feel for Saturday,” Harris said, “look at how much things have changed since – there’s a completely different vibe around the place.”

“But nothing surprises me in football anymore – been in it too long seeing the highs and lows, and I’m not referring to the past anymore, we’re only looking forward.”

“The past for me is last week’s game and the week before. We’re going to enjoy it and have a right go for the rest of the season, compete in every game and try and win every game, but there will be highs and lows coming up.”

“All that I know from my group is that we hit a level of performance from the last three games as our bare minimum and we are competitive in every fixture.”

Before looking at Saturday’s home game with Crawley Town, Harris confirmed that Lewis Walker has “joined” Ben Reeves out for the season with a knee injury, Scott Kashket is to undergo a scan on an injury that is likely to keep him out of the team for a while and Olly Lee is still some way off returning to the fold.

Former Chatham boss Scott Lindsey makes a second appearance of the season in the away dug out at Priestfield after being Swindon boss for the 0-0 draw earlier in the season.

“I know that Scott likes to have the ball and wants to control the game with the ball. We won’t get hung up on having to make x amount of passes in our own half.”

“We have an idea of how he wants to play and do, but anything can happen on Saturday formation and team-wise, so we really have to be open minded and draw on the incredible support from a sold out Priestfield and I’m sure that we’ll get over the line!”
