Hampton & Richmond Borough 1-1 Welling United

Brad Quinton’s Welling United came from behind to claim a point at Hampton and Richmond Borough but will be wondering how they didn’t win.

Hampton goalkeeper Dion-Curtis Henry kept Welling out with a string of saves and Niko Muir put the hosts ahead three minutes before the break but Welling plugged away and Anthony Cook scored a well deserved equaliser from the spot.

Nathan Green had the first chance of the match when feasting on to Dipo Akinyemi’s clever flick but he fired wide of the near post as Henry rushed out.

Ryan Hill tried his luck when trying to beat Dan Wilks at the near post from a free kick but he shot wide and Wilks appeared to have it covered anyway.

Wilks turned a Dean Inman header from Kyron Farrell’s long throw round the post and from Sam Deadfield’s corner, Inman headed wide.

Adam Coombes then had a great chance to put the Wings ahead from the spot when Luke Ruddick handled birthday boy Cameron James’ flick into the area but Henry went the right way and turned the well struck penalty away.

Henry then made an even better save when Akinyemi’s shot seemed destined for the bottom corner but he got down superbly to keep it out.

All Hampton could muster was long range shots. Wilks got right behind a thirty yard effort from Ruaridh Donaldson and saved comfortably and both Hill and Jake Gray fired over from outside the box.

However, when Hampton finally did manage to get into the penalty area, they went ahead. Deadfield got to the bye-line and pulled it back for Muir to finish from close range.

Romoney Crichlow-Noble fired over for Welling early in the second half before Hill headed over at the other end.

Henry made a good save from Crichlow-Noble’s header before making another brilliant one to deny Diaz Wright. This time, it came out to Chiori Johnson and as he surged forward he was brought down and another Welling penalty was awarded.

This time, Anthony Cook took the responsibility and this time Henry was powerless as his spot kick flew into the corner.

After that, the two teams scrapped for a winner but neither created a clear cut chance and the points were shared.
