Gillingham striker Ronan Hale has been talking to the media this week about his move to Kent and how the Gills recent run of form is a spur for the rest of the season.

At his first “appearance” at the weekly briefings, the Northern Irishman told us, “I feel that I am finally settling into the team! It’s never easy coming into a new team in January and the new surroundings – me and my family are settled now, and we are now really looking forward to kick on and as a striker, it is disappointing not to be scoring every week but I’m still looking forward to all the games coming up.”
“It’s difficult arriving in January especially if the team is low on confidence and form, and you just have to try and settle in as soon as possible. I’ve told the Gaffer before that I don’t really mind where I play as long as I am playing. I will always try and find myself in the right position. It has been a tricky period for the squad overall after the good start to the season that fizzled out, but we still have nine games left and there’s no reason why we can’t finish the season strong.”
“Tuesday’s defeat to Swindon was disappointing, but there were a lot of improvements on the previous games. In the final third we had more chances created for one and we probably should have buried one or two, but our luck will change soon enough, and I feel that we definitely deserved a point Tuesday night.
“Sometimes you just don’t get the luck and I think that was the case on Tuesday – their keeper made a couple of really good saves and one from a corner as well with the scramble at the end – on another day, I would have been able to bury it but a defender made a good block! Listen my luck will change and hopefully it will change very soon but the games are coming thick and fast and the boys are right up there for the fight and hopefully we can get it right on Saturday!”
“Whilst we are not and cannot accept the loss on Tuesday, the performance itself was a massive improvement on the MK Dons and Cambridge games. It’s one that we can build on as we go into Saturday.”
Saturday sees the Gills at home again – this time to Bristol Rovers and Hale told us, “We’ve had a few main stays of the team out injured but the boys know – everyone in the squad that MK and Cambridge performances simply weren’t good enough and the standards weren’t there. Tuesday was a massive improvement but going forward we have to bring that and more starting against Bristol on Saturday.”
“I always wear my heart on my sleeve at every club that I have been at, and it hurts me when I lose – I love winning and I love scoring goals and when I am not doing that I feel as though I am not doing my job! But the situation that we are in at the minute, our run of luck has hit the buffers, but fingers crossed that changes on Saturday. So, as I have said, the last game was a massive improvement from the two defeats that were nowhere near good enough and hopefully we will change that Saturday!”
“I am part of a squad that isn’t doing well and the fans who pay their hard-earned money to come and watch us and when the standards haven’t been good enough, they have the right to tell us!”
