Hale admits players have let Ainsworth down

Ronan Hale is coming to the end of his first half season in Kent, and the Northern Irish striker who joined Gillingham in January has been reflecting with KSN on his MEMS Priestfield story so far.

“We’re all very determined to try and sign off on a high especially after the last two results,” Hale admitted in this week’s briefing.

“It’s important for the fans who really deserve it to get a good finish especially after the last two games which really have not been good enough, and hopefully on Saturday against Shrewsbury we can go out and put it right and send people home happy for the summer.”

“A win creates such a positive buzz going into the break – everyone what’s to be in a good mood during the off-season but the last couple of away games and the home game with Grimsby we know were nowhere near good enough we all know that, but to win the last game of the season will keep the spirits high during the summer.”

We asked Hale about Sam Vokes and his decision to make Saturday his final ever game and Hale admitted, “He’s been a brilliant player – unfortunately for me, I joined very late into his career and it would have been great to have a bit more time with him but he is a great man, and a great player and I wish him the very best in whatever he does next.”

“It was the “big man and the wee man” with the two of us and I have scored goals alongside him. I wish we could have had more…”

“I am massively looking ahead to next season – I came in late and it really hasn’t gone anywhere near as well as I would have liked it to! Last weekend at Barnet was an embarrassment to everyone apart from young Sully (Sullivan Booth) who scored on his League debut.

“I think the players have let the manager down as he gives us the plan to go out and take place, but we haven’t done it at all as everyone can see by the results – there’s no way the results should be like that.”

“It’s something that we have to take on the chin – it’s not enjoyable for anyone watching on, we can only be positive and look forward to the new season coming up. As footballers we have to take the criticism and put things right but we know ourselves that last Saturday was nowhere near good enough and this week we are going to try everything we can to put it right not only for ourselves but everyone to try and put it right and show that we can have a go next season.”
