Greenwich Borough 1-1 Tunbridge Wells

On Bonfire night Greenwich Borough and Tunbridge Wells attempted to put on a show of their own but had to settle for a draw.Greenwich Borough2

Aaron Jeffrey had the first chance, seconds into the game but Steve Lawrence made a comfortable save from his header.

Gary Borrowdale went close from 25 yards for Greenwich before Tom Bryant had a wild effort at the other end.

Chris Edwards tested Lawrence again with a near post effort following a sweeping movement that started when Craig Holloway played a calm pass out when under pressure from a back pass.

It came as a bit of a surprise when the visitors went ahead but a mix up in midfield allowed Lee Radford to cross and a free Dane Luchford rose to head home.

After that the visitors seemed to grow in confidence and some good football gave Ian Parsons an opportunity but Holloway was able to beat out his effort.

Borrowdale went on a marauding run for Greenwich five minutes from the break and his deflected shot won the corner from which the hosts equalised.

Although Borrowdale’s initial header was cleared of the line, Joe Vines was alert enough to follow up and head home and the teams went in level at the break.

Chris Saunders, Lewis Wood and Jefferey all had shots off target as Borough looked to push on in the second period before Lawrence made a brilliant save when Danny Young met Borrowdale’s free kick with a powerful downward header.

Luchford then missed a great chance for Wells when left unmarked from Jack Goldsmith’s cross but he headed wide.

Gary Alexander was played in by Wood but fired across the face of goal when he should have done better.

Having gained the impetus, a series of yellow cards and fussy refereeing stopped the hosts flow although Jeffrey again came close when played in on the left hand side.

Jeffrey had another chance with a stinging shot that was turned away then Harry Smith shot over at the other end when team-mates were better placed.

Wood spun and shot wide for Greenwich and Alexander had a free kick saved comfortably as they looked for a late winner but they were unable to break down a well marshalled Tunbridge Wells defence.
