Glebe v Rusthall – Preview

On Saturday afternoon Glebe host Rusthall at Foxbury in a Southern Counties East Football League match to bring the curtain down on the regular season.

However, it’s not the end of the season for the hosts. They are already guaranteed a play-off place and could seal the runners-up spot and number one seed should they achieve a better result than Faversham record at Punjab United.

However, anything other than a home win could mean that their entire post season campaign will be away from Chislehurst.

In their most recent outing, the Foxes won four-nil at Lydd Town. Nathan Mampono put Glebe ahead in the thirteenth minute but they had to wait until nineteen minutes before the end for their second goal. Jamie Philpot added a brace in the last two minutes. That took the prolific striker to twenty-six goals in thirty-five league games.

Meanwhile, Rusthall beat Bearsted two-nil in a match that went a long way towards ensuring safety from relegation. Jack Lyons scored the opener in the twelfth minute and Ben Branch added a second fifteen minutes later. Staying up was guaranteed for them when Welling Town lost at home to Kennington on Tuesday night.

When Rusthall hosted Glebe earlier in the season, the points were shared in a goal-less draw. The games between the two teams were tight last season too.

The first encounter at the Jockey Farm Stadium was another draw. Jack Mahoney scored for the Foxes with fourteen minutes remaining only for Yassin Fares to level in the final minute. In the return match Michael Adepoju scored early on with what turned out to be the winner for the Foxes.
