Glebe v Erith & Belvedere preview

Third placed Glebe entertain Erith and Belvedere in fourth in an enticing Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division match on Friday evening.

The hosts have won their last three games since the disappointment of their exit from the F.A. Vase. That run started with an excellent two-nil against Sheppey United which was only the Ites second league defeat of the season.

They followed that up with a solid three-one victory at Tower Hamlets with Charlie Penney scoring a brace, and a two-one win at Hollands and Blair.

Visitors Erith and Belvedere are also enjoying an exceptional season. They leap-frogged Deal by beating them one-nil last Saturday courtesy of a James Hawkins penalty and a spot-kick save at the other end by Rilwan Anibaba.

Before that, they had suffered a sticky patch with one win in four games and they are missing influential midfielder, Luke Rooney, who has been out injured since Christmas. They will now be looking to push on with five or six teams breathing down their necks.

When the two teams met at Park View Road in November, they participated in an eight goal thriller. Their respective leading scorers found the net early on with Danny Lear putting the Deres ahead and Jamie Philpot levelling for the Foxes. Tyler Anderson-Parr restored the hosts’ lead but Sam Johnson equalised and the teams went in all square at the break.

Lear scored again, nine minutes after the interval but Lauris Chin brought it back to ‘even Stevens’.

Philpot added his second to give Glebe the lead for the first time and Ryan King-Elliott ensured that the three points went back to Foxbury when scoring the visitors’ fifth goal with ten minutes remaining.

Both teams like to attack so this could be another exciting game.
