Glebe v Deal Town preview

On Tuesday night Glebe host Deal Town at Foxbury in an enticing Southern Counties East Football League match.

Third placed Glebe will know that they are in for a challenge as Deal are breathing down their necks, one place and four points behind them in the league table.

The Foxes returned to winning ways on Saturday after suffering just their third league defeat of the season last Tuesday in their Bromley derby with Holmesdale. Against Bearstead, they had to remain patient until Sol Baugh put them ahead, ten minutes into the second half.

Jamie Philpot then scored his forty-fifth goal of the season to put Glebe two up and Ryan King-Elliott added a third with four minutes remaining.

Meanwhile, Deal also bounced back after a midweek defeat. They lost at Kennington last Tuesday but returned to form with a late, late two-one win over Holmesdale on Saturday. The visitors lead at half time through an own goal but Jack Paxman levelled four minutes after the break.

After that, the game appeared to be heading for a draw, but the Hoops kept plugging away and Alex Smith grabbed a winner in the sixth minute of additional time.

When the two sides met back in October, Deal emerged as victors from an excellent second half performance. Rene Rivera put them ahead midway through the second half and two goals in three minutes, from Alfie Foster and Joe Reeves, ensured them the three points.

Although Chatham Town and Sheppey United appear to have the top two places shored up, Glebe and Deal will both be giving their all to claim third spot.
