Glebe 3-2 Fisher
Glebe 3-2 Fisher

Foxbury hosted a hard-fought and sometimes frantic match that Glebe just edged against Fisher in the Southern Counties East Football League.

Whilst Glebe goalkeeper Nathan Edwards took the plaudits with a series of brilliant saves, the real heroes were the people who enabled the game to go ahead. Torrential rain during the day caused other local games to be postponed but the Foxes’ groundsman did a tremendous job in getting the game on.

Then a floodlight failure threatened to undo all the good work, however, members of the committee somehow managed to get the lights working and although the match started thirty-five minutes late, the show did go on.

There were just thirteen seconds on the clock when Glebe opened the scoring. Jonathan Erhabor played it in behind the Fisher defence for Jamie Philpot to run on to, and he notched his eighteenth goal of the season with a crisp finish.

In the sixth minute, Glebe made it two. Marcel McDonald’s cross just evaded Philpot but the hosts recycled the attack and it came out to Tom Hever who hit a marvellous strike from outside the penalty area that gave Fisher goalkeeper Samuel Nwabuko no chance.

Manny Shoderu headed an Inesh Sumithran corner wide of the near post before Malachi Morris hooked wide for Glebe at the other end

Shoderu then scored a wonder goal to bring Fisher back into the game with a tremendous hit from fully thirty-five yards.

Eniye Amgbaduba shot just wide from twenty yards for Fisher then the end to end football meant that Philpot had a chance at the other end with a first time volley that flashed past the post.

Flavio Jumo went close for the visitors before Glebe extended their lead. Jamie Philpot nicked possession and played it out wide to Ali Fofanah. He looked up and crossed low into the path of Marcel McDonald who gave Nwabuko no chance with a low shot inside the far post.

Edwards made a great save from Prince Imoru before making an excellent stop when Amgbaduba spun and fired towards the bottom corner. Just before half time, a good Fisher move presented a chance for Sumithran and he could only shake his head in disbelief when Edwards made another outstanding save.

There was nothing that Edwards could do to stop Fisher from scoring three minutes into the second half. Shoderu sent Amgbaouba clear and he finished in style.

Shoderu came close to levelling but Edwards made another fine save before a series of substitutions caused the game to become disjointed. Chances were less forthcoming although Glebe did have an opportunity when Philpot flicked it into the path of Jason Banton whose attempted chip towards the far post was just too high.

As the game went into the latter stages Jojo Kinzoni headed narrowly wide from a Sumithhran corner but they were unable to fashion another chance.

Deep into stoppage time an injury reduced Glebe to ten men but the numbers were levelled before play had restarted when Sumithran had too much to say for himself and was sent to the sin-bin for the remaining three minutes.

Play eventually ended at ten twenty-one p.m. with the Foxes claiming all three points.
