Glebe 1-0 Erith Town

Jack Clark’s late penalty was sufficient for Glebe to see off local rivals Erith Town.

It had been quiet for the first eighty-six minutes until the highly contentious penalty was awarded. Erith had two players cautioned for their dissent at the decision and two more dismissed after the final whistle. While this was going on, Dockers’ substitute Myles Keyser-Burrows lay prone on the ground with a dislocated shoulder that required a visit to Lewisham Hospital.

After Glebe had started the brighter, Erith had the first chance when Ricky Freeman laid it off to Razzaq Coleman but he miscued wide.

At the other end Josh Harris brought a deep cross down superbly but then fired well over.

Dan Nash had a free kick saved comfortably by Tommy Taylor before Steve Springett found himself in an unusual position from a long ball over the top but he was well off target with his shot before he made his way back to his defensive position.

As the game headed towards the break Steadman Callender spun and shot over before Glebe’s Steve Smith had a shot well saved by Adam Molloy.

Freeman and Callendar both had shots saved after the break as the Dockers started the half strongly but Glebe then came back into the game and Clark hit a free-kick into the defensive wall before Stacy Long shot just wide of his near post.

Clark had a cross kept out acrobatically by Molloy and it came out to Jack Harris who looked certain to score but Molloy recovered to make a stunning save.

Dan Palfrey made a brave block to keep out Mohammed Abdisamad before the deadlock was broken.

Glebe thought that they should have had a penalty just before they were awarded a controversial one. Abdisamad’s cross hit Russell Bedford from very close range. Whether it hit his arm was debatable but he had little chance of getting out of the way. To add insult to injury he was cautioned and Springett talked his way into the book. Clark waited but held his nerve to convert off the post.

There were no further goalscorer chances but Erith continued to argue after the final whistle and Dan Palfrey and another Erith player appeared to be shown red cards.

That ended Erith’s three game winning steak and allowed Glebe to leap-frog them into ninth place.
