Gills snap up Hurtado on loan

Gillingham have moved fast to replace Macauley Bonne by bringing in striker Jorge Hurtado on loan from Watford.

The 20-year-old Colombian striker signed for the Hornets from CD Real Cartagena in October 2022 before spending the latter half of that season on loan at Independiente Medellín.

Hurtado later joined MLS outfit New York Red Bulls on loan in August 2023 before returning to Vicarage Road in January.

He made his Watford debut in the 2-1 victory over Chesterfield in the third round of the Emirates FA Cup on Saturday January 6, coming on as a substitute in the 70th minute and providing the assist for Tom Dele-Bashiru’s late winner.

Hurtado comes in just hours after Macauley Bonne left Priestfield for a loan spell at Cambridge United and is expected to make his debut as The Gills face Walsall at home on Saturday.

The striker is just one of the signings Gillingham are expected to make today with the transfer window closing at 11pm and Stephen Clemence is believed to want at least one more through the door today.
