Gillingham have completed the signing of midfielder Dean Parrett on a two-year deal.

The 26-year-old, formerly of Tottenham Hotspur, joins the ranks at Priestfield Stadium having turned down a new deal at fellow League 1 side AFC Wimbledon.

Parrett, who has represented England at U20 level, began his career at White Hart Lane and made his first senior appearance in the 2008/09 UEFA Cup campaign against Shakhtar Donetsk, starting in a 2-0 defeat before coming on as a second half sub for Jamie O’Hara in the return leg a week later.

In 2009/10 the midfielder had a spell at Aldershot Town, playing four times before returning to his parent club.

The following season he had spells at both Plymouth Argyle and Charlton Athletic, scoring a goal for each club in the process. Stints at Yeovil and Swindon, again on loan, were followed with a longer term spell at Stevenage where he agreed a permanent transfer and played 78 times, scoring nine times.

On moving to AFC Wimbledon on a two-year contract in 2016 he featured 67 times and scored nine goals.

After signing his deal Dean told the club’s official website: “The ambition of the club matches my ambitions; I enjoyed my time at AFC Wimbledon and felt I did really well there.

“I felt it was time for a new challenge and having sat down with the manger I saw the passion was there and I wanted to play for him. I’m looking forward to it.”

Manager Steve Lovell added: “It’s great news that we have been able to secure Dean’s signature.

“Naturally a player of Dean’s calibre and pedigree was attracting interest from elsewhere, but having spoken to the player we both share the same vision and determination to succeed at Gillingham.

“He came through the youth ranks at Tottenham Hotspur so he’s been nurtured very well; he has plenty of Football League experience under his belt and I’m sure the supporters here at Priestfield will enjoy watching him play.”

Dean’s contract will commence on July 1.
