Gillingham have secured the signature of Nathan Thomas from Sheffield United for the upcoming season.

The winger signed for the Yorkshire club in 2017 after impressing during his time at Hartlepool United. Since signing for the Blades, he has been on loan at Shrewsbury, Notts County and Carlisle where he spent last season.

The 24 year old has already played for numerous clubs in the Football League, having also spent time at Plymouth Argyle and Mansfield Town before moving to Hartlepool. He has also spent time at Motherwell and Darlington.

He learnt his trade in the North East, having spells at both the youth systems of Sunderland and Newcastle.

Last season he scored four times in 16 appearances for Carlisle in a season which saw them finish 11th in League Two.

Throughout Thomas’ career, he has only played 11 League One matches, but the winger will be hoping more is to come for him during his time in Kent.

Speaking to Gillingham’s website, he said ” The club has showed a lot of ambition in the transfer window, and the gaffer has shown what he wants to achieve this season so it was a no brainer for me.

“It’s been ongoing for the best part of two weeks now, and obviously once I found out what he wanted to do this season and the squad he wanted to assemble then he sold the club pretty well.”
