Gills make latest summer addition

The Gills have made their second summer signing from Bristol Rovers in the space of a few days.

David Tutonda, 25, a talented left-back with great technique, rapid pace, and aggression follows Max Ehmer to MEMS Priestfield Stadium as Gaffer Steve Evans prepares his squad for the 2021/22 season.

David had three seasons at Cardiff City as a youngster, having come through the club’s youth programme, and enjoyed productive loan spells at Newport County, where he made his professional debut in 2015, and York City respectively.

The player joined Barnet on a permanent transfer in December 2016 and was outstanding during a spell of 106 first team appearances in all competitions, which earned him a move to Bristol Rovers last summer.

Gillingham, and a number of League 1 clubs, chased his signature but, on that occasion, Rovers won the race to land the talented full-back in a summer where there was significant investment in the team.

He has departed the Memorial Stadium following the termination of his contract. In total, the Congolese full-back has played 154 matches, scoring six times.

Manager Steve Evans said: “David is a talented boy. He is very quick, good on the ball and likes to get forward.

“We tried last summer to get him to Priestfield but we couldn’t compete at that time.

“Our supporters will like him for sure. We go forward with our recruitment plans and I look forward to working with such a talented lad.”

*David’s deal with Gillingham officially starts on July 1.
