Gills looking to bounce back in style
Gills looking to bounce back in style

It’s too early to say Saturday’s game is a must win for Gillingham, but they really could do with getting back on the winning trail after back-to-back defeats.

Losing at Rotherham and then being beaten by Shrewsbury has seen the Gills slip back to sixth in League Two and Andy Hessenthaler’s side will be desperate not to fall too far back from the league leaders.

Accrington Stanley won’t be a pushover and the Gills will have to go into the game without the services of midfielder Jack Payne (knee) and keeper Paulo Gazzaniga (mumps).

There is also some doubt over striker Danny Kedwell’s fitness, but without many other options at the club, Hessenthaler may well be forced to go with the former AFC Wimbledon man.

It’s in midfield that Hessenthaler has his biggest headache with Payne sidelined he has to decide which five to select.

Chris Whelpdale is pushing for a place back in the starting eleven, whilst Danny Spiller is back in training after missing last weekend’s game through illness.

Therefore, the Gills could line up like this:

Flitney, Fuller, Lawrence, Frampton, Jackman, Whelpdale, Lee, Montrose, Weston, Rooney, Kedwell.

Subs: Fish, Richards, Martin, Spiller, Oli.
