Gillingham’s season comes to an end

Gillingham’s SKYBet League One season is officially over after an announcement was made on Tuesday afternoon.

Following today’s vote between the division’s Chairmen, the EFL’s proposal to end the season now has been backed with Coventry City and Rotherham United promoted to the Championship, with Tranmere Rovers joining Southend United and Bolton Wanderers dropping to League Two.

Swindon Town, Crewe Alexandra and Plymouth Argyle return to League One with the last promotion place going to either Cheltenham Town, Exeter City, Colchester United and Northampton Town.

The Play Offs in League One will be contested between Wycombe Wanderers – whose place was confirmed only on the points per game basis – Fleetwood Town, Portsmouth and Oxford United.

Under the “final” table, the Gills will “finish” tenth.

Reaction from Steve Evans will follow later, and it has been announced that the Gills boss will be speaking to his squad individually tomorrow (Wednesday) before announcing his retained list later in the day.
