Gillingham v Swindon Town preview

Gillingham will be looking to follow up Wednesday night’s win at Bristol Rovers with another three points against rivals Swindon Town at Priestfield on Saturday.

A renewed sense of optimism within the Gillingham camp sees the side sitting 12th in the League One table, just five points now outside the play-off places and they go into this weekend’s game with just a few injury doubts.

Jordan Graham and Zech Medley missed Tuesday night’s game through injury and Steve Evans could welcome back the pair into the squad.

For Evans, he is wary of the threat Swindon will pose, but believes his side are on the up:

“We have a terrific group who believe in each other. Swindon are a terrific side who play some wonderful Football. They have an attack minded coach in John Sheridan; they will come to us and try to secure lots of the ball. They are a dangerous opponent.”

“Tomorrow will bring a different challenge to what we have had in recent weeks. Swindon will be prepared, organised, disciplined, and we will have to produce a really good performance. It’s a really tough game for us.”

Swindon come into the game sitting 19th in the league and on paper it could be a home win for the Kent side as they look to go into the busy Christmas period on a high.

A 4-2 loss at Crewe Alexandra on Tuesday night sees the Wiltshire side slip back down the league table after an indifferent few weeks, picking up wins against Oxford United and Bristol Rovers, but registering losses against Lincoln City and Accrington Stanley.

The last time the two sides met at Priestfield back in August 2016, the game ended in a 1-1 draw with the Wiltshire side winning 3-1 in the reverse fixture in February 2017.

However, The Gills will be confident of recording another win against their fierce rivals with four wins and four draws in the past nine meetings between the two sides.
