Gillingham v Dagenham & Redbridge preview

Gillingham will be hoping they can put their league form behind them for tonight’s FA Cup 2nd Round replay with Dagenham & Redbridge at Priestfield.

With the game to be shown live on BBC3, all eyes will be on The Gills and whether they can see their way past their non league opponents for the prized Third Round tie against Premier League side Leicester City.

Goals have been extremely hard for The Gills to come by this season with just six in twenty league outings, but the cup clashes have given Neil Harris’ side some much needed respite from their woeful League Two form.

Harris has spoken of his desire to see his side progress and show fans what his team are really made of, but there will be few that brave the cold tonight given the game is on TV and the club were hoping fans would pay £20 a ticket to see a shot shy side.

Whatever the outcome of tonight’s clash, all eyes will be on Sunday’s home league game against Bradford City and more importantly, the proposed takeover of the club by American Brad Galinson.

Despite news having broke that Galinson had invested in the club, fans have been impatient and want to see a complete takeoever, but their patience will have to be tested as these things rarely happen quickly.

In the meantime, with the January transfer window opening in just a matter of weeks, fans will be keen to see if the club can pull a rabbit out of the hat – be it some wins on the pitch or new faces through the door.

That starts tonight against Dagenham & Redbridge and with more than just Gillingham fans watching the game, giving a good account of themselves is critical for a side that have flattered to decieve for the majority of the campaign.
