Gillingham v Crewe Alexandra preview

Gillingham will look to get back to winning ways this evening when Crewe Alexandra come to Priestfield in an important League Two clash.

Both sides are languishing near the bottom end of the table and three points could go a long way to ensuring either secures their League status for another year.

Following Saturday’s disappointing 2-0 loss at Walsall, Gillingham manager Neil Harris will be hoping for a much improved performance from his troops.

The manager criticised the way his squad trained last week and has warned against complacency setting in as the side look to secure enough points between now and the end of the campaign to make sure they stay in the Football League.

Saturday’s loss at Walsall was a real wake up call for a Gillingham side that now have the financial clout behind them, but can sometimes fail to live up to the new expectations that come with it.

The weekend’s loss was disappointing in so many ways with Gillingham failing to land a shot on target and Harris will be keen to see his side threaten a stuttering Crewe side a lot more.

Harris must decide whether to shuffle his pack and bring in some fresh legs with plenty of games coming up in the next few weeks.

The likes of Alex MacDonald and Robbie McKenzie may be handed starting places as the Gillingham boss tries to find a formation and style of playing that both produces results but inspires the paying public.

Whoever plays this evening, Gillingham will be hoping they end the night looking up the table and not over their shoulders.
