Gillingham v Carlisle United preview

Gillingham could be just ninety minutes away from a lucrative FA Cup Third Round tie against a Premier League side.

All that stands in their way are Carlisle United who come to Priestfield on Saturday afternoon.

Steve Lovell’s side will understandably go into the game as favourites and will hope they can make it through safely from this Second Round clash without the need of a replay.

Captain Lee Martin is expected to be fit enough to take his place in the side despite being stretchered off early on in last weekend’s League One clash with Oldham Athletic.

Josh Parker also seems set to be fit despite carrying a knock throughout the week with manager Steve Lovell starting to have a number of options available to him.

Defensively, Lovell will have to decide who is centre back pairing are with Gabriel Zakuani, Ben Nugent, Luke O’Neill and Max Ehmer seemingly fighting it out for two places.

Mark Byrne, Sean Clare and Parker have all proven they can slot into defence this season as Lovell looks to come up with a combination that sees his side through to the next round.

With Tom Eaves set to be partnered by Conor Wilkinson for the tie, one goal may be enough to be a Carlisle side that are short of goals themselves on the road this season.

FA Cup fever could hit Medway this weekend. A win and Lovell could be handed some cash for the January transfer window, whilst fans could be handed a real treat of a Third Round tie.
