Gillingham make latest summer signing

Gillingham have made their fifth signing of the summer as Neil Harris builds his squad ahead of the new League Two season.

Goalkeeper Ashley Maynard-Brewer has signed on a season-long loan from Charlton Athletic.

For the 23-year-old, this will be his sixth loan spell away from the Addicks having experienced first-team action before with Chelmsford City, Hampton and Richmond Borough, Dulwich Hamlet, Dover Athletic and, last season, for Ross County in the Scottish Premier League (playing against both Celtic and Rangers) where the youngster made 17 appearances, keeping three clean sheets in the process, before returning to the Valley following an impressive spell.

Ashley will start training with his new teammates with immediate effect and could feature at Folkestone Invicta this weekend in Gills first pre-season friendly.

Maynard-Brewer was born in Joondalup, Western Australia, and began his career with local side, ECU Joondalup, before being snapped up by Charlton in 2015. He progressed through the academy and made his professional debut in November 2018 in an EFL Trophy tie at home to Swansea U21’s.

The highly rated stopper is an Australian U23 international, making his debut in 2021, playing in friendlies against Romania and Mexico respectively.
