Gillingham hoping for Good Friday
Gillingham hoping for Good Friday

Gillingham will be hoping for a Good Friday when Bristol Rovers come to Priestfield for the League One clash.

Ady Pennock’s side enter their final four league fixtures for the season and this Easter weekend presents them with a real chance to pull clear of the relegation zone.

Sitting 20th in the league, just a point above Port Vale, who have a game in hand, The Gills face Bristol Rovers at home on Friday before making the short trip to The Valley on Easter Monday to take on a stuttering Charlton Athletic.

Those two games inside the space of 72 hours could have a huge bearing on what league Gillingham will be playing their football in next season.

Win both games and there’s every chance it will be League One once again. Lose both and they will most likely go into the final few weeks of the season hoping other results go their way.

Last weekend’s point against play-off chasing Millwall stopped the rot of four straight defeats, but one point from a possible fifteen suggests The Gills are real candidates to go down.

Being a Gillingham fan is rarely a dull affair and this season has been no different.

Ady Pennock, Jamie Day and Steve Lovell really have their work cut out to lift a side that will go into this weekend’s first game without the services of the suspended Bradley Dack, whilst Zesh Rehman is likely to miss both the Bristol Rovers and Charlton Athletic games with a hamstring injury.

Chris Herd is nearing a return from injury, but once again Pennock seems set to have to make changes to a Gillingham side that’s struggled to keep clean sheets thi season.

With Port Vale facing already promoted Sheffield United at home, The Gills will be hoping whatever happens at Priestfield on Good Friday, the events at Vale Park leave them ahead in the league.
