Portuguese news sources are reporting that the Addicks have agreed a deal to sign CS Maritimo’s German central defender, Patrick Bauer, subject to a medical.

The 22-year-old has made 43 starts, plus 2 substitute appearances, scoring twice, for Maritimo in Portugal’s top-flight.

Bauer is 6’4″ tall and has represented his country at Under-17, Under-18 and Under-20 level.

Bauer started his career at VfB Stuttgart, but failed to make a senior appearance in his homeland.

He was loaned to Maritimo for the 2012/13 season, and completed a permanent move before the start of the 2013/14 season.

Bauer played 36 games in the 2014/15 season and helped his team to a ninth place finish.

Respected German football journal, Kicker, has suggested that Aston Villa have shown interest in the player.
