Canterbury Rugby Club is launching a new look Girls section on October 1st which promises to be a game changer for aspiring female rugby players across Kent. 

Under the title ForGirlsByGirls it aims to proved high standard rugby for girls from Under 12 (Year 7 secondary school)  regardless of experience. 

A four strong coaching team with impressive backgrounds in the sport and all active playing members at Canterbury will be headed by Alice Hayward with Becky McCracken as team manager.

Training sessions are scheduled for Thursday nights from 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM and Sunday mornings from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM. These sessions will be complemented by matches and joint training sessions held across Kent.

The girls’ team will be known as the East Kent Viragos, bringing together players from Thanet, Dover, and Deal. 

In addition, the club holds Pitch Up and Play sessions girls to try out rugby and nurture their interest in the sport. For younger players the club already has mixed mini age group sessions for Under 6 to Under 11s on Sundays.

Virago Team Manager Becky McCracken says: “Canterbury Rugby Club’s girls’ section is poised to be a beacon of empowerment, fostering a love for rugby and providing a great environment for girls to excel in the sport. It’s a thrilling new chapter for Kent’s young female rugby enthusiasts, one that promises to make waves in the world of rugby.”
