Gallen brought in by Charlton

Steve Gallen was appointed to the Charlton Board of Directors on Tuesday. He joins owner, Roland Duchatelet, and Richard Murray on the Board.

Gallen was brought to the club in April 2017 by former manager, Karl Robinson, as Head of Recruitment.

Gallen’s prowess in the transfer market is extraordinary, and he is particularly strong in recruiting in the loan market.
Duchatelet paid Gallen this tribute after the appointment was announced:

“Steve Gallen has done an excellent job since joining the club. The recruitment last summer, working alongside his team and with Lee Bowyer, was essential to the club’s promotion and he has done some great work again this summer.

“He has a very good relationship with Lee Bowyer, he is popular with the club’s staff and has built up a good rapport with the Charlton fans.

” He will add his football expertise and experience to the Board of Directors. Selling the club remains our number one priority and it is important the football doesn’t suffer during that process, with Steve on the Board of Directors that can only help.”

‎Gallen has made no secret of his love of his role at Charlton. He comes from a fooballing family, his brother – Kevin – is a legend at Queens Park Rangers.

Gallen is multi-talented. He has a UEFA Pro-Licence and briefly managed QPR in the Premier League.

‎Here are his comments following the announcement:

‎”It’s an honour and a privilege to be appointed to the Board of Directors. I have really enjoyed my time at Charlton.

“Last season was incredible and winning at Wembley is something I’ll never forget. This season is a new challenge and like everyone I’ve been thrilled with how we’ve started.

“I am fortunate to work with some exceptional staff and I just want to continue doing all I can for the club, the staff and the fans, who have been great with me.”What is the reason for the appointment? Well, the Addicks have made a sensational start to their return to the Championship. They are doing better than anyone expected.
Gallen’s talent for spotting a player is indisputable, and combined with Lee Bowyer’s managerial skills, Charlton are exceeding all expectations.
It is early days of course but maybe, just maybe‎ the club could be heading for another fairytale season.
And if they are in the mix after Christmas, it would be in Duchatelet’s own interest to speculate in the transfer market.
Steve Gallen may already have a number of targets under the microscope.
