Galinson focusing on January
Galinson focusing on January

With Stephen Clemence getting his first league win under his belt, a lot of the Priestfield faithful are already looking towards the January transfer window, but Brad Galinson has warned fans not to expect the same influx as we saw in January this year.

It was one of the subjects that we spoke to the Gills owner about this week, and he told us, “Last year we were bottom of the League and had to generally revamp the entire team. We tweaked some more in the summer, and I remember that when we first hired Kenny (Jackett), he said that you need three windows generally to get it right.”

“So, this is our third window coming in January and I honestly think that we will do some interesting business, but not quantity – a very focused quality in a few key positions.”

“I think that is what our expectations are, but if you look at some of the teams doing very well in the League – the Mansfields and the Notts for example – those squads shave been together for a while now with very small changes over that period!”

“We have a whole bunch of talent together and trying to digest it and manage it…”

“Personally, I think so far this year we are a “B minus” – we are within spitting distance of where we need to be, but if you look at our squad and even if you look at our budget, we are under performing, BUT it is still early in the season.”

“You can see the potential and of course the other thing is that you do not want to peak too soon.”

“Everyone recognises that our squad is more talented than our current performance, but I do not think that we are really fretting about it just yet!”

Off the pitch, the Club has recently come under the microscope because of two incidents in the crowd that have overshadowed the efforts on the pitch.

“It’s very disappointing to see!” the Chairman said with an air of frustration. “But we must remember that it is “just” one or two idiots!”

“One thing that is tempting is to have seven thousand people, one person does something, and you go to the conclusion that we have terrible fans – they are terrible people; what’s going on in Kent? What’s going on in England? Football fans are horrible people!”

“It is one person – maybe two people – so it is such a small percentage of people and fortunately we have that tendency to represent the bigger problem!”

“That being said, even one person behaving the way misogynistically and racist and homophobic, simply is unacceptable!”

“We have I think taken the lead – not on purpose, but because we have been forced to – that we will have a ZERO tolerance for it.”

“Things that have happened and the racist incident making national news, we were front and centre without wanting to be, but one thing is that it has definitely exposed society that it is not acceptable.”

“Separately our Club is the first one to ban people for misogynistic chants – again not that we wanted to be.”

“So it’s unfortunate that we have had to take the lead, but there is an absolute zero tolerance for that at this club and what the hope is for us is that not just here in Medway, but also nationally and in society is that your peers start to realise that it’s OK to stand up to things like this or just to be quiet and take it!”

“What’s happened to us over the last couple of weeks certainly became front and centre in social media… hopefully people will realise that it is not right, and we are with them – hopefully together we can figure this out for football in general!”

“I do want to thank the vast majority of our fans for the way they behaved. I would call them heroes as it’s very difficult to stand up and put yourself in an uncomfortable situation, to fight against something that you believe in to the people that you are sitting with – it is very difficult!”

“Peer pressure is very powerful and so the people who stood up and showed others that they can do the same is heroic to me, heroic!”
