Frustration for Kent football fans

There was frustration for fans from Bromley and Maidstone United as their games were called off at short notice on Tuesday night.

Bromley had been set to play their FA Trophy Quarter Final replay at Spennymoor Town and with the side having made it all the way to County Durham, the game was called off due to a waterlogged pitch at 6:30pm.

A local referee had deemed the playing surface at Spennymoor playable at both 9am and 2pm, so fans travelled in their numbers for the game, only to find it called off just over an hour before kick off.

The club will now communicate with the FA and Spennymoor Town to come to a resolution with the Kent side possibly just two games away from an historic trip to Wembley.

Meanwhile, there was frustration back in Kent for Maidstone United fans as their game against Macclesfield Town was called off at 7:45pm.

The two teams were set to go head to head in the National League clash at the Gallagher Stadium, but with the away team having made their journey all the way to Kent, it was the home side that were unable to field a team.

That was because there had been an accident on the M25 leaving Stones manager Jay Saunders just five players to select from that had made it to the ground.

Lee Worgan, Josh Hare, Dean Beckwith, Will De Havilland and Jack Richards were the only players that had made it the ground in time and had been registered to play.

There had been talk of starting the game with Maidstone fielding the minimum of seven players for the game to go ahead, but Macclesfield agreed that wouldn’t be suitable and the referee decided not to wait beyond the scheduled 7:45pm kick off time to call the game off.

Maidstone United and Macclesfield Town will now liaise with the league to rearrange the game.
