Folkestone Invicta 3-1 Tooting & Mitcham
Folkestone Invicta 3-1 Tooting & Mitcham

Folkestone progressed to the next round of the FA Cup with victory over fellow Bostik Premier Side Tooting & Mitcham this afternoon collecting £4500 for winning, and they now await the draw on Monday.

The game started with Tooting having the first half chance when in the 4th minute a corner by Peter Wedgeworth found Chace O’Neill 8 yards out but his header went wide, in the next minute it was Folkestone’s turn as Scott Heard raced down the left wing went into the area and his shot from an acute angle was saved by Joe Tupper’s legs.

A minute later Folkestone took the lead when a corner into the area saw Eddie Dines divert it into his own net.  For the next 10 minutes Folkestone controlled the game and had chances to increase their lead, in the 11th minute Ian Draycott received the ball 30 yards out and he ran towards goal before shooting over the bar.

Then a glorious chance came in the 14th minute when Jordan Wright on the right crossed into the 6 yard box where Joe Taylor was and with no one near him he headed wide.

Tooting came back into the game and in the 18th minute Omar Folkes on halfway slipped Danny Bassett in and he went into the area,  his shot went across the goal for a goal kick.

A minute later and Folkestone could have increased their lead when Draycott put Heard through, he then laid it into the path of Kieron McCann but from 18 yards his shot was parried away by Tupper.

In the 21st minute Bassett was in the area, just about to shoot when it was blocked for a corner. Tooting were looking dangerous at set plays and in the 28th minute a free kick into the area found O’Neill but from 8 yards he headed wide.

The last chance of the half came in the 39th minute when Tooting should have equalised when Wedgeworth’s low cross found Bassett who from 6 yards saw his side footed effort saved by Tim Roberts where if he had hit it away from Roberts he would have scored.

The second half was only two minutes old when Folkestone doubled their lead when a Heard Corner was punched clear by Tupper but only to Finn O’Mara who from 5 yards headed in.

Tooting were close to getting a goal back when Billy Dunn in the area twisting & turning saw his shot from 6 yards hit the outside of the post. Three minutes later and Folkestone could have wrapped the game up when Taylor was put through,  he looked up and passed square to Heard who quickly laid it into the path of McCann but his shot from 15 yards was saved but a minute later they did score when substitute Ade Yusuff was put through and from 15 yards shot past Tupper.

In the 68th minute it could have been four when Yusuff put Taylor through but from 10 yards on his own he shot straight at Tupper. Tooting to be fair kept playing football, creating half chances even thou they seemed to be out of the contest.

In the 70th minute a cross into the area was half cleared to Dunn whose first time shot flew over the bar and then three minutes later the ball went loose on the edge of the Folkestone area and Omar Folkes shot past Roberts.

Folkestone were a little stunned by this although Tooting did deserve this consolation goal. The last half chance of the game came in the 77th minute when McCann on the left crossed to the near post where Taylor was but again his header went wide.

The rest of the game saw Tooting trying to get another goal while Folkestone kept them at bay and also tried to score another but the final whistle went and Folkestone deservedly go onto the next round.
