Fullicks are the new Stadium sponsors of Folkestone Invicta renewing a connection between the family-run Cheriton based domestic appliance company and the town football club stretching back a quarter of a century.
Paul Fullick told us: “My brother and I were both decent footballers, but Dad was always working in those days and never had time to come and watch us. It was only after he retired that he got involved in the game when he became a director of the old Folkestone club during the 1980s.”
The company was founded by Paul’s dad, Fred Fullick, back in 1963, in far smaller premises, just around the corner, from their impressive present-day Cheriton Road showroom.
Fred’s wife, Edna was also very much involved in things as was Paul’s sister Brenda and other family members as the business thrived, being for many years the main Hoover dealers for this part of Kent.
Paul himself was a more than useful goalkeeper at local level, playing for Folkestone Town under 16s, and making several appearances for the reserve team.
“But I only played one game for the first team” he recalled with a grin. “It was the last game of the season, away from home.
“For some reason virtually all the under 16s were called up for the trip alongside (club stalwart) John Tredwell and a couple of other first teamers.
“I can’t for the life of me remember where it was – but I do remember we lost 8-1!”
The company’s excellent reputation, built on hard work, sound product knowledge and friendly customer service, has continued to grow over the years, culminating in a major enlargement of their premises a couple of years ago.
“We desperately needed more room to show off more of the products we have available – and I’m pleased to say it has worked out well” said Paul.
Fullicks now belong to the Euronics buying group, involving more than 800 shops throughout Britain and all over Europe.
Their showroom is at 319, Cheriton Road, Folkestone. Telephone 01303 276558.
The company has been linked with Folkestone Invicta for several years – notably as sponsors of the club’s Player Of The Month awards, but this new deal as Stadium Sponsors, represents a significant step-up in their involvement.
