The Gills are back on the road this Saturday as they travel to face Fleetwood Town at Highbury Stadium.

Gillingham suffered a frustrating 3-0 loss in last Saturday’s league season opener against Walsall, and a 3-0 loss to Luton Town in the Carabao Cup.
The new-look Gills side were impressive for the majority of the game, creating several chances in spite of losing both Armani Little and new signing Liam Gordon to first half injuries. Along with the loss of personnel, the substitutions also used up two windows in the first half, leaving Gareth Ainsworth only one opportunity to make changes for the remainder of the game. Late defensive errors let Walsall run riot in the final 15 minutes as the Kent side were comfortably beaten.
Their opponents, Fleetwood Town, finished 15th in the 2025-26 season, two places above Gillingham with 57 points.
Bizarrely, Fleetwood’s two fixtures this season have both been against Chesterfield, winning 1-0 at home in the Carabao cup, and 1-0 away in the league, with veteran striker Ched Evans scoring in the first half of both fixtures.
Gillingham and Fleetwood have played each other on 21 occasions, with the Gills winning four and Fleetwood 10. They last faced each other in March at Priestfield, which ended 1-1, with goals from Seb-Palmer Houlden and Shaun Rooney.
The injuries are a setback for Gillingham. While Little’s appears to be a minor muscular issue, Liam Gordon’s is more serious and suggests he may be out for some time, although not as long as first feared. Given Sam Gale’s recent departure, the Gills’ stock of centre backs looks low, with Robbie McKenzie potentially having to cover if Ainsworth wants to continue playing a back three.
However, there were promising signs of attacking threat with James Brophy providing good service for Ronan Hale last Saturday. Given the Gills’ struggles with scoring in the back end of last season, this will be encouraging for the fans.
