First wins abroad for Reade
First wins abroad for Reade

Luke Reade followed in his grandad’s footsteps last weekend and took victory abroad in the latest round of the Masters GT Trophy.

It seems victories abroad are like buses, on his first trip in Zandvoort Reade came away with a double victory in the GT3 Lamborghini.

He brings us up to date with his race weekend, Luke said: “We walked the track on Thursday and I was taken back with how banked some of the corners were as well as how blind most of the track is from inside the cockpit.

Friday was my first experience of the circuit, with the limited laps I needed to get up to speed quickly and push on. This resulted in a few little spins and a few new pairs of pants needed.

Fortunately this was enough to get my eye in and I felt happy to go into qualifying.

After a brilliant qualifying we placed third overall and first in GT3. It was super cool to race with the prototype cars which are much quicker, my boyhood dream is to one day race at Le Mans and this felt in some way similar.

Race one: Neil took the start and brought the car into the pit in second, after jumping in the car I set about chasing down the lead car in GT3. We caught the Aston Martin Vantage (which sounded amazing) and passed with a few laps to go to take the race win!

Race two: The track was slightly wet after a downpour so I elected to take the start, and start on a slick tyre. This would be tricky at first but as soon as the track dried it would be the most ideal tyre.

We made a great start and moved up some positions and extended our lead. When I pitted to switch over to Neil we had a comfortable lead in GT3, he brought it home to take another win and take over the championship lead.

What an incredible weekend it was and a huge privilege to race on such an iconic circuit. Especially as my Grandfather raced and won in an Aston Martin DB4 46 years ago in 1979.

Now it is full focus on arguably the biggest race of the year and one of the biggest attended motorsport events in the United Kingdom. The Silverstone Festival August 22nd – 24th. We have a lot planned, so watch this space.”
