Faversham Town vs Sittingbourne – KSC – Preview

It’s a night off Bostik League action on Tuesday evening for Sittingbourne when they make the short journey down the A2 to Faversham Town in the Kent Reliance Kent Senior Trophy.

Such competitions are often the opportunity to give squad members 90 minutes of first team action, but Sittingbourne have a thinned-down squad this season, so many regulars will be in action.

They go to Faversham full of confidence after an unbeaten start to the league season in their first five matches, even though their only cup competition so far has resulted in their only defeat.

That was against Sussex County League side Pagham in the FA Cup – and Pagham themselves went out of the competition at the weekend, beaten by Carshalton after storming into a shock early lead.

That was the afternoon Sittingbourne went second in the Bostik South League with a glorious winning goal by Tommy Loynes after Kane Rowland had equalised an early strike for Whyteleafe.

At the same time Faversham were enjoying by far their best day of the season, beating Tonbridge, from a league higher, 3-1 in the first qualifying round of the FA Cup.

They’d already knocked out Croydon in a replay in the previous round, so cup games have proved rather more successful than league action for the club this season, having lost their last three league matches.

Their side includes former Sittingbourne favourites Simon Overland, Mark Lovell and Matt Bourne and Overland saved a penalty against Tonbridge on Saturday while both Lovell and Bourne were on the scoresheet.

Sittingbourne drew 1-1 at Salters Lane last season in the league and then won well in the home return at the end of the season, beating Faversham 2-1. Their Kent Senior Cup excursion lasted just a round as they lost narrowly at home to Ramsgate.
