Faversham Town won this East Kent derby with a very solid performance while Herne Bay will come away thinking they could have at least taken a point as in the match they probably had more possession but could not find the finish.
Faversham went up to third in the table in which so far has been a brilliant start to the season.
The home side should have taken the lead in the 2nd minute when Tom Hadler’s long ball found Nathan Wood who outmuscled the defender and went into the area and pushed the ball past Tom Wray but it ended up going too far and a chance missed.
Faversham did take the lead in the fifth minute when Josh Strout’s chasing a long ball down on the left passed back to Jack Evans who from twenty five yards nonchantly curled his shot past Wray even though he got a hand to it.
Four minutes later Jacob Lambert’s twenty yard free kick came back of the cross bar before being cleared.
In the eleventh minute Faversham nearly doubled their lead when a free kick into the area was half cleared and came back into the six yard box where Harry Hudson was but as he turned and shot it went over the bar.
Two minutes later another chance came for Faversham, when Evans took a short corner to Tommy Fagg on the edge of the area and he cut inside and his shot cannoned off the post.
Five minutes later Wood on the right wing crossed to the back post where Josh Strout’s flying in headed just past the post.
In the twenty sixth minute Herne Bay nearly scored when Rhys Wyborn on the edge of the area saw his shot pushed onto the post by Tom Hadler. Nine minutes later Wyborn received the ball from a corner and his low cross saw Sonny Black direct his shot just past the post.
Half time arrived and both managers would be pleased, Steve Watt for his team leading while Ben Smith for the way his team had played.
The second half was delayed for ten minutes as the Referee Edward Smith had an injury and they were searching for a replacement, Christopher Cannon took over as Referee and the half began with both teams looking to score but in the sixtieth minute Faversham doubled their lead when Wood raced down the right wing and got to the by-line before finding Evans who from ten yards placed the ball into the back of the net.
This hit Bay as they had played well but were now chasing the game. In the seventy fifth minute Henry Sinai in the area saw his shot blocked by Hadler and cleared then in the seventy eigth minute Faversham scored again when Evans put Strout’s through and he lobbed Wray, a minute later it could have been four when Wood on the right crossed to the back post where Kane Haysman was but from six yards out he volleyed well over the bar.
Herne Bay got a well deserved consolation goal in the ninetieth minute when Joe Tayor passed out to Antonia Morgan who crossed to Wyborn who shot home.
