Faversham Town 2-2 Herne Bay
Faversham Town 2-2 Herne Bay

Faversham Town dropped more points in their quest for promotion to a determined Herne Bay side in this East Kent Derby against Herne Bay.

The game started quickly for Faversham as in the second minute a corner into the Herne Bay area fell at Dextor Peter’s feet, but his snapshot went just past the post.

Herne Bay got into the game two minutes later when a corner of theirs saw ex Faversham player Johan Caney-Brown head onto the top of the net. The game was quite open with both teams having chances.

In the 13th minute Josh Ajayi on the right wing crossed into the area for Ethan Smith who controlled it and shot but Joe Coleman came out and blocked it, but it went to Tashi-Jay Kwayle but under pressure his shot was deflected for a corner.

The game ebbed and flowed for the next twenty minutes then in the 36th minute a long ball down the left wing saw Coleman race out of his area but his clearance hit Tommy Fagg and looped up into the area towards the goal Joe Tyrie chased back and headed it away for a corner.

Five minutes later Bay took the lead when the ball in the area bounced up for Kamani McFarlane, and he lobbed Jacob Russell from six yards out and the ball nestled into the back of the net.

The lead only lasted two minutes as Tariq Ossai on the right wing crossed to the back post for Fagg to head in from five yards and get the home side back into it. In the last minute of the half Faversham nearly took the lead when a corner to the back post found Peter whose header was palmed away by Coleman and then cleared.

The match was evenly balanced with both sides capable of winning and in the 56th minute McFarlane received the ball in the area, but his weak shot was easily saved by Russell.

A minute later Faversham took the lead when Frankie Smith roaming down the left wing received the ball and went into the area before shooting past Coleman from eigth yards.

In the 66th minute Faversham nearly increased their lead when a Fagg long throw into the area was half cleared to Harrison Pont but from ten yards his volleyed shot went over the bar.

Two minutes later Fagg on the left cut inside and passed to Nathan Wood who laid the ball into the path of Kwayle but his shot from twenty yards went just past the post. Four minutes later Harvey Brand saw his twenty-yard shot whistle past the post.

In the 76th minute Fagg should have secured the points when he was put through on goal but his shot from fifteen yards was saved by Coleman.

Herne Bay got a deserved goal in the first minute of added on time when a ball into the area was half cleared to Rhys Wyborn and from eighteen yards his shot went through a crowd of people and beat Russell. In the fourth minute of added on time a corner into the Herne Bay are saw George Evans rise but his header went just over the bar.

Faversham may now have dropped out of the play-offs after results went against them over the weekend, but they do have games in hand on most teams above them.
