Faversham Town 2-0 VCD Athletic

Faversham Town continued their pursuit of promotion with what can be described as a laboured performance but none the less it’s three points & they know they can play better while VCD looked a better side than their league position shows.

Faversham started the game with more possession than VCD but it was the visitors who had the first half chance when in the 9th minute Richard Jimoh on the left got to the by-line & his shot did not catch out Lewis Briggs as he pushed it around the post for a corner.

Three minutes later Faversham scored in bizarre circumstances when Joe Hyde’s long ball forward was headed forward from the halfway line by Matt Newman & Harry Sargent 30 yards out flicked his header backwards beating Joe Hyde who had come off his line.

In the 16th minute a long ball forward caught the Faversham defence out & Fred Obasa running through just got beaten to the ball by Lewis Briggs who had raced out of his area & cleared.

In the 25th minute it nearly became 2 when Stefan Payne on the right saw his low cross find Nathan Wood who flicked the ball over Hyde but not hard enough as it was cleared off the line.

Although Faversham had the lion’s share of possession VCD were looking dangerous & in the 29th minute Obasa in the area saw his shot hit the side netting.

Two minutes later Matt Parsons from halfway broke forward & then from 25 yards tried his luck but it went just wide.

In the 33rd minute Wood 30 yards out saw his shot go over the bar. The last chance of the half came in the 42nd minute when Payne on the right saw his shot go just past the post.

Half time arrived & Faversham would have been happy as would have VCD even though they were losing.

The second half was only three minutes old when Kieron Campbell going forward passed to Payne who cut inside & from 20 yards shot home.

Three minutes later a bad clearance from Briggs found Lee Bird but his first time shot was saved. Faversham were enjoying possession but VCD were still dangerous with their pace & in the 71st minute Faversham nearly scored their third when Sammy Moore’s cross found Billy Bennett & his stooping header from 18 yards was tipped over the bar by Hyde.

The final whistle went & the Faversham faith full were delighted with the victory even though they had played average but three important points which leaves them three points in front of Whitstable & next week they have an away game with Glebe who are third & have a game in hand.
