Faversham Town 1-4 Eastbourne Town
Faversham Town 1-4 Eastbourne Town

Faversham lost at home for the first time in a year and for the first time this season in a game that saw Eastbourne did a smash and grab raid.

Faversham probably played their best for a while and fortune did not favour the brave as they dominated possession. Manager Tommy Warrilow stated before the game that there will be games that they dominate but lose and this was one of them, they now go to Deal Town on Tuesday night hoping to get back to winning ways.

Faversham started on the front foot and in the fifth minute Kieron Campbell on the left wing beat the defender and got to the by-line before seeing his cross shot pushed away by Chris Winterton.

Eastbourne took the lead in their first real attack and set pieces would be on the menu, in the 16th minute Alfie Simmons on the right saw his long throw into the area half cleared but straight to Leon Greig and from fifteen yards shot past Roshan Greensall.

Faversham equalised five minutes later when Jack Parter on the overlap saw his low cross stabbed into the net by Johan Caney-Bryan. Two minutes later Parter again on the left wing overlapped crossed to the back post for Tashi-Jay Kwayle but his header was pushed away by Winterton for a corner.

Two minutes later against the run of play Eastbourne scored again when on the left Jack Murphy saw his long throw into the area cause havoc and from three yards Nathan Hover clipped the ball past Greensall.

In the 13th minute Faversham nearly got back into the game when Bradley Simms saw his long throw into the area punched clear by Winterton but not far as a shot came in and was blocked but came out to Kwayle and from fifteen yards his shot came back of the post.

Eastbourne nearly increased their lead when a corner into the area saw Jimmy Holman’s header hit the crossbar. They did increase their lead in a breakaway, in the 41st minute when Alfie Rogers on the left put Greig in and from fifteen yards shot past Greensall.

In the second minute of added on time Faversham were close to getting a goal when Campbell nineteen yards out saw his free kick go just past the post with Winterton nowhere near it.

The second half saw Faversham have the greater of the possession but unfortunately, they didn’t score, while Eastbourne resolutely defended their lead and relied on breakaways which did not happen much.

Faversham had two half chances the first in the 67th minute when a Simms long throw into the area saw Tommy Fagg’s header saved and then in the 81st minute Nathan Wood on the right cut in and his twenty yard effort went just wide and then to rub salt into the wound Eastbourne scored again when in a rare attack Murphy on the left saw his cross find Aaron Capon who controlled it and fired in.
