Faversham Town 1-2 Chatham Town
Faversham Town 1-2 Chatham Town

Chatham Town finally got an away victory in the League over Kent rivals Faversham Town although it wasn’t a pretty performance but this shows what a good team they are and with results going their way they are only one point behind Ramsgate with a game in hand.

The game took a while to get going with the pitch heavy & it being windy, Faversham had the first half chance of the game in the 18th minute when a free kick into the area saw Debutant Darren Phillips head just wide.

Chatham took the lead in the 22nd minute to the surprise of everyone when a ball across the area was palmed away by George Bentley but only to Seidou Sanogo & from 15 yards he shot home.

Chatham were now in control & creating the few chances that came. In the 28th minute Sanogo saw his 20 yard shot pushed around the post by Bentley.

In the 34th minute another chance came when Jack Evans got to the by-line & his cross hit Oloyede’s knee & easily saved by Bentley. Faversham would be aggrieved in the 38th minute when Alex Addai was put through on goal & as he attempted to go round Ben Birdle-Card it appeared that he was fouled but the referee said no to the amazement of the Faversham team & supporters, this typified their season.

The second half was only 5 minutes old when Chatham nearly doubled their lead when a corner into the area saw Reece Butler rise but his header went past the post but in the very next minute they did double their lead when Matt Bodkin rolled back the years & he skilfully went past the defender & his cross found Evans who headed home from 5 yards.

In the 61st minute they could have been three up when a ball into the area was mis punched by Bentley straight to Billy Bennett but from an acute angle his shot went past the far post, a minute later Oloyede in the area saw his shot saved by Bentley.

Chatham were in total control of the game without being at their best & in the 87th minute Faversham got a goal when Kieron Campbell picked up a clearance & his shot partially deflected beat Birdle-Card.

This made the last minutes a little stressful for the management & supporters of Chatham but eventually the final whistle & an away victory was recorded.
