Faversham Town 1-1 Whitehawk
Faversham Town 1-1 Whitehawk

Faversham Town still look likely to be relegated as it seems every game is a must win game and today was in that category, but they made hard work with their discipline as they had one player sent off and the assistant manager Darren Neale and several bookings and in the end got away with a point.

The game plan was obviously to win & Faversham got at Whitehawk straight away & within 35 seconds they nearly got a dream start when a long ball forward saw Gillingham loanee Ronald Sithole beat the onrushing Sam Freeman & his attempted lob from 20 yards went just past the post.

In the 3rd minute Sammy Moore saw his free kick into the area cause confusion in the Whitehawk defence & it was eventually headed out for a corner. Whitehawk withstood the pressure put on them & in the 8th minute Michael Fernandes was put through on goal & from an acute angle his shot was saved by Bailey Vose’s legs for a corner.

The game went a little quiet for both sides as they battled for it in midfield then in the 27th minute Charlie Harris saw his 20 yard shot easily saved by Vose.

Whitehawk nearly took the lead in the 36th minute when a corner into the area was cleared but only to Will Miles 20 yards out & his shot came back off the post.

In the 40th minute they should have scored & taken the lead when Fernandes on the left saw his low cross find Alfie Rogers but his misfit shot from 8 yards went past the post.

The second half was the same as the first with Faversham on top, in the 48th minute Moore’s free kick from 25 yards went just over the bar.

Whitehawk replied with their first chance of the half when a free kick into the 6 yard box saw Rogers header saved by Vose.

Two minutes later Whitehawk nearly took the lead when a ball crossed to the back post saw Fernandes control it & he was just about to shoot home when Vose came flying out & blocked it.

In the 60th minute Whitehawk took a deserved lead when a long throw into the area caused confusion as the ball was headed around the area before Miles saw his header go into the net.

It took only two minutes for Faversham to equalise when a Moore corner into the area found Jacques Kpohomouh who shot home from 8 yards.

In the 67th minute things got worse for Faversham as Toby Ajala was sent off for a bad challenge, in the 72nd minute Kieron Campbell turned & ran forward & saw his 20 yard shot go just past the post.

A minute later Assistant Manager Darren Neale was sent off for foul & abusive language at the Assistant Referee. Faversham kept going despite being a man light & in the 84th minute Sithole passed to Campbell on the left wing & he cut in & his shot was smothered by Freeman.

The game was extended by 7 minutes which Faversham held on for a point in their fight to avoid relegation.

Faversham’s season might not be going to plan but off field it looks a lot rosy as they look likely to be able to lay a 3G pitch in the summer & a training pitch also 3G at the back of the changing rooms as well as all the work that has gone on in the ground so if they could avoid relegation things will be looking up for them.
