Faversham Town 0-1 Herne Bay

Herne Bay recorded their first ever win over Faversham in the Ryman League with a fully deserved victory.

Faversham

The game started with Faversham having the first chance of the game when Dave Botterill fed the ball through for Stuart King playing against one of his old teams & he went into the area & chipped it over the advancing Jack Delo but unfortunately it went wide.

Herne Bay had their first chance in the 10th minute when Giorgio Russo made a one-two with Kane Phillip & his cross from the by-line was met by Mark Lovell but his header went wide.

A minute later Lovell had to leave the pitch with an injury forcing Bay to change their game plan.

Herne Bay started to control the game with some good football & in the 27th minute they took the lead when Kane Butler on the left crossed to the back post for Phillip who headed back across the area where Danny Williams was & he stabbed the ball home.

In the 35th minute Sam Hasler’s free kick from 20 yards was deflected by the wall & just went past the post with Robert French beaten, two minutes later a long ball forward into the channel saw Williams take the shot on the run from the angle but was easily saved by French.

Faversham’s chances were few & far but set plays could get them back into the game & in the 44th minute Wayne Wilson stepped up & from 25 yards out forced Delo to push it around the post. In time added on Dean Grant was put clear in the area but from an acute angle scuffed his shot wide.

The second half started with the Faversham players probably having had a good talking to by the management & in the 50th minute Ryan Cooper on the right crossed to the back post where Jamie Maxted was & his downward header was easily saved by Delo, a minute later Butler saw his shot from 20 yards hit John Scarborough on the chest & cleared.

In the 53rd minute another set play for Faversham saw Wilson’s free kick into the 6 yard box punched clear by Delo.

Three minutes later Butler received the ball 25 yards out cut inside & saw his curling effort go just past the post.

Herne bay were soaking up the pressure & catching Faversham on the counter attack & in the 64th minute Sam Hasler saw his snapshot saved by French.

Three minutes later another set play for Faversham saw Wilson’s effort from 25 yards flew over the bar.

The last chance of the game came in the 81st minute when Cooper’s cross into the area was met by Grant but his header went over the bar. The final whistle went & the three points went back to Winches Field & fully deserved.
