Farnborough v Welling United preview

On Tuesday evening Welling United are on the road again when they travel to Farnborough in a Vanarama National League South fixture.

Their last match was on Saturday when they picked up a point in a goal-less draw at Hungerford Town. Although they were the better side going down the slope in the first half, and had more of the possession in the second period, the hosts had the best chances so a draw was probably a fair result.

That took Welling to four games without a win, two draws and two defeats, and a concern is that they only managed one goal in those four games.

While Welling were being held at Hungerford, Farnborough were claiming an impressive two-one victory at Oxford City after going behind to a Zac McEachran goal early on. Reggie Young levelled just after the half hour mark and Jonathan Page scored the winner thirty minutes later.

They are now in a great position to push for the play-offs. They are seven points off the final position but have four games in hand.

However, Welling will take heart out of the fact that Farnborough have a better away record than they have at home. They have won six of their fifteen matches on their own turf, and have drawn four.

There was no corresponding match last season as Farnborough were busy winning promotion from the Southern League Premier South but they have met this season at Park View Road.

In that game, they took full advantage of Welling’s home frailties when claiming the winner in the third minute of stoppage time through Oliver Pendlebury.

Hisham Kisamu had put the visitors ahead, but Stefan Payne levelled with thirteen minutes remaining and it appeared that he had rescued a point until the late drama.

Warren Feeney may be forced into shuffling his pack as Christie Pattisson, Rob Howard and Medy Elito all sustained injuries at Hungerford. However, he will have Amadou Kassarate back from suspension and Taylor Maloney returned to action from the bench and will hope to be back in the starting line-up.
